Nurse Suzi's Foot Washing Clinic

Homeless people suffer from serious foot problems – calluses, fungal infections, ingrown toenails, oozing blisters, and open foot wounds are commonplace. It is not surprising: walking for miles each day in ill-fitting shoes whether in the pouring rain or blistering sun – often without socks – will cause horrific foot problems. Each step becomes painful.

In response to this felt need, Nurse Suzi, the Loaves & Fishes outreach nurse, was moved to start a monthly foot washing and foot care clinic in Friendship Park. Homeless guests are invited to soak their feet, volunteers then clean, scrub, and dry them. Each foot is massaged with soothing lotion, and if needed, toenails are cut and sores are bandaged. Finally, each guest is given a new pair of socks to put on, and foot powder for their shoes. If a volunteer pedicurist is available, the worst foot problems are triaged for treatment.

Please join Nurse Suzi in this compassionate ministry. To volunteer to help her homeless foot clinic, please call our volunteer coordinator at 916-446-0874 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
