Friendship Park

(916) 443-7378

The heart and soul of the Loaves and Fishes program, Friendship Park is a private park that provides activities, information and a safe environment for our guests during the day. 323,000 cups of coffee were filled in 2015 as well as 218,967 pastries served for morning breakfast. The Park provides telephones and free local telephone calls to our guests. There is an Information Service Center (916 446-9316) to assist and sign up guest for services: Noon meal, hair cut vouchers, toiletries, and locker storage. With the help of donations from the community, Loaves and Fishes has built a Wash House which provides laundry service for our homeless guests as well as a place for men to shower and shave (with toiletries included).

Within the confines of the Park is a Library Reading Room (916 446-0874) where guests can appreciate a full service library with books, daily newspapers, and periodicals. The library allows quiet time and space for studying and writing.

Often disconnected from family and friends, our guests who have died are remembered through memorial services at the Memorial Wall where their names are etched in stone never to be forgotten. The Memorial Wall is located over a waterfall and pond in a peaceful corner of the Park.

Friendship Park’s Homeless Breakfast Program

With passion, focus and a strong commitment towards improving the lives of the homeless, Friendship Park is actively expanding its breakfast offerings to something healthier and more sustainable. We are doing this by turning to the Sacramento community to sponsor and host breakfasts Monday through Friday in the Park between 7:00 and 8:30AM.

What is a community sponsored breakfast? A community sponsored breakfast is about as pure, real, and compassionate as one can get—groups of typically 10 or more people pool together their financial resources, their time, and their passion to fulfill a basic human need for the poorest of poor in our community. Each group shops, buys, preps, and serves something as basic as a sandwich, fruit, cheese stick and hardboiled egg to over 200 homeless.

Some groups serve once a month, some every other and some periodically. Our ultimate goal is to serve a healthy and hearty breakfast five days a week. Regardless of frequency, this program provides an opportunity for many to see the difficult reality of our homeless. However, it also provides an opportunity for many to witness and participate in the spirit of generosity and an act of compassion.

If you are interested in making a real impact on our homeless community by sponsoring a breakfast with a group of friends, family members, classmates, neighbors, work colleagues, church member or anyone else you can pull together, please contact Becky Reed, our Breakfast Coordinator, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. With adult supervision, kids of all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate.
