The Loaves & Fishes Guest Health Outreach program is located in Friendship Park and caters to the medical needs of homeless men, women, and children. Staffed by a full-time registered nurse, this Program provides medical screening, health education, counseling, and medical triage.
Because of the nature of homelessness, many of the guests who come to Guest Health Outreach do not seek any other medical help, thus the Loaves & Fishes nurse is responsible for not only treating any minor medical conditions but also for educating guests and making the appropriate referrals for major health issues.
In 2007 approximately 7,952 homeless guests were provided service. This included eye exams and fitting for glasses, TB testing, blood pressure and blood sugar testing as well as Health Fairs and education classes for our guests.
